Yonkers Police Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos announced on Wednesday, Jan. 30, that they have apprehended Yonkers Gavin Chisolm, 16, for this alleged role in the fatal incident. Police also identified his victim, Kasean Tuthill.
Officers from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 to the area of South Broadway near the intersection of Vark Street, where there was a report of gunshots fired. At the same time of the report of shots fired, a 17-year-old Yonkers resident and a second shooting victim arrived at Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
Police said that the teen died at the hospital, launching an investigation into the shooting. The second victim of the shooter was hospitalized and listed in stable condition later on Tuesday.
Politopoulos said that investigators worked through the night and Chisolm was identified as a suspect. He was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and processed at Yonkers Police Headquarters later in the afternoon, pending his arraignment. Investigators noted that Chisholm suffered apparent stab wounds to his thigh during the fatal incident.
Chisolm is being arraigned as an adolescent offender in Westchester County Court. He has been charged with murder and one count of attempted murder.
“Violent acts, even those committed by young adults, will not be tolerated in our City,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner stated. “Gun violence has no place in our communities, and let this swift arrest be a stark reminder to our young people that their actions may have life-altering consequences – in this case, two lives and two families have been left devastated.”
